Postal department to provide export service to Ludhiana's small-scale industries

LUDHIANA: Under a new project of providing export service, the postal department has formed a marketing team to conduct a survey in Ludhiana for the purpose. As part of this project, the postal department will tie up with small-scale industries (SSIs) of Ludhiana, to provide a better, cheaper, and easier platform to export their goods. This was revealed by PKSwain, chief postmaster general of Punjab & UT Chandigarh, in the city on Wednesday.

While interacting with the media about the upcoming projects, Swain said: "As Ludhiana is an industrial hub, and its small-scale industry needs a little push, we are planning to launch an export service for them. We have formed a marketing team that will check their requirements and collect detailed information." Swain has also asked small-scale industries to share their ideas and requirements through the general post office.

As of now, all logistics involved in import and export is in private hands. According toAvtar Singh, president of Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU): "This is a laudable effort on the part of the postal department, as freight constitutes a significant part of the cost of a product meant for import/export. If the department can provide its services at a nominal cost with faster delivery, it will be a win-win situation for both the industry and the government."
